Amur Maple

My eyes are drawn outside
The world renowned coffee shop
Admiring one vivid change this fall

Adorned like a beautiful dress
With sequins flashing like lights
Capturing attention of all around

This particular tree’s leaves
Upon my closer examination
Appear poisoned in some way

Nearly like, as is portrayed
In zombie movies and TV shows,
The blackening of veins as one turns

The outside of the leaves
Have been infected by red
Yet don’t appear quite dead

Splotches of green remain
Like the change last spring
To show life’s natural cycles

And I think now the light
Sanguine leaves have also
Inspired me to be overtaken
