HWY 11 Trees

1

Halfway between

Our DES ARC ARK sign and the Hazen interstate exit

There’s a tree that looks like it was struck by lightning

With leaves blazing a mixed shade of purple and auburn

Eliciting a chill, looking merely like the peak of autumn

Oddly enough, some limbs were cut from the whole

Halfway between

The left and right and thin back sides, by my view

Making the leaves remain fallen, never to renew

2

Another tree, actually struck by lightning

Has been left to die a slow, slow death

Limb fall by limb fall, part by part

Many pieces upon piece… near

Crying, sighing, now dying

3

All the trees in-between

A wonder I even notice

More homes or fields

Or crops upon crop

4

In front of a farmhouse

My favorite: a tree orchard of pines

Just off the interstate heading to our home
