I’ve been working on this piece for a while now and can’t determine if I want it to be a song or a poem. For now, it’s set up as a song, but I can see it going either way. Let me know if you think it should be a poem or a song in the comments.
“Subtle Shifts”
Verse 1
Subtle shifts down by the bay
Make me think we’re in for rain
Get inside all you common folk
Take a drag on one last smoke
Tides coming in, no boats going out
Drops hit windows, flush water spouts
Like a duo dancing then sudden romancing
This crushing storm makes us ramble about
Verse 2
Gigantic shifts persist in our town
Swift winds pound, signs knock down
Battening hatches, noises shake us up
Hemmed in now, screams and cries erupt
Waves getting higher, tossing ships
O, what a time for us to meet like this
If the end is coming, don’t shed a tear
Here, huddle closer, gently kiss my lips
